portrait of martina

Today was our last day together in the office. Martina started as a student in our firm but soon afterwards received a steady job. We worked together several times, basically all the time for the same department. Now the time has come that Martina explores a new future. Being young, that’s what she should do :)

We reshuffled our office / studio, so with that both my background and lightning approach changed. Background might be more interesting.

Though still window light, difference from window to subject is significant bigger. Reflector used to fill the shadows. Two seconds exposure as Martina could not manage anything longer.

portrait of natalie

Natalie does not work that long in the firm, around a year I guess. We meet sometimes in the hall and once or twice we had lunch together. This week she accepted my invitation to take a portrait.

She found it difficult to remain still for six seconds, actually she did not manage. Despite the ‘short’ exposure time, her look is rather intense.

Two seconds, window light and a reflector.

portrait of ivana

Ivana finally decided to let her portrait taken. She actually had to since I was pushing her for a while already. Sometimes I can be quite persistent.

People always ask me if they can smile and my reply normally is ‘just try, but it is hard’. Ivana managed, obviously she has a natural smile.

Window light, my reflector and three seconds.

come to mama!

As there was a conference in Belgrado most hotels were booked, so they put me in ’Mama’s Shelter’. Funny name for a hotel. So was the look: full of design and staff was extremely friendly as well.

Although I did not meet Mama herself, she left me many, many messages: in the elevator, my room, the ceiling and walls everywhere. Mama loves to write!

Last but not least, breakfast made me feel like a king: what a tables :)

i commute IV

I commute. This week my drive towards work took me a bit longer than usual. Instead of ‘my’ Zagreb, I had to go to Belgrado. The highway ZG - BG reminds me of the Dutch roads: long and flat, every now and then a curve. Happily there were clouds.

ps: sorry for the dirty windshield …

family portraits

Little Danijel was celebrating his second birthday so it was a great day to gather together with the family for a drink and a bite. Though I normally make normal photographs during family happenings, I now asked the family to sit still for a while as well.

Background was a metal garage door which I thought it would look wonderful in black and white, no reflector and no window since we were out in the full sun.

The younger generation managed to be still for two seconds whereas the older generation did not had any problem with six seconds posing.

brothers

The picture below is technically incorrect. Instead of one of the boys, the chair is in focus. The guy in the back is slightly overexposed. Technically it is a bad picture.

That said, for me, who is close to the boys it is a great picture. The way the guys look at me, the way they are positioned, the dog watching one of them. To me, this picture, which lasted only one moment, shows me at least ten years of history.

portrait of ines

Since I work in the firm (which is quite some time already), Ines is working here as well. Though I changed several jobs and departments, Ines stays steady in her present job, doing the best she can day after day.

At first she was not really for a portrait, but a slight change in my workflow made her accept the challenge. Last week we finally did a session. Window light, my reflector and four seconds.
