I do people. I love that and that’s why I used to do weddings. Normally with weddings there are lots of people. Really a lot. However, sometimes I like to walk around alone and discover, see things which normally are taken for granted… like doors and windows. You see them all the time, but, do you really see them?
Doors ‘n Windows will be a new series on my blog. Either in color, either in black & white, depending on the mood. Mostly old, but may be new ones as well. Scenes will be as found: I will not move nor add items. You will see what I saw. I hope you enjoy.
The first windows are from an old house in my village. House is a big word; ruin would be a better description. I don’t know who is the owner, nor why the house is in such a bad shape. Part of the ground around is taken away by a landslide. Nevertheless, the remaining windows (without glass) are wonderful…

For two years I photographed my project ’seconds’ in black and white and I loved it. Though I knew that certain images would do better in colour, I never achieved the colours I liked with processing, I never took actually the effort to find them as black and white was easier and good enough for me.
That said, on daily base I look at thousands of images, many of them in colour, and I decided that I need some colour in my life as well, so I started to search for THE colour…
I found zillions of presets for photoshop, lightroom, capture one, and so on. All nice, but all trying to get this film look. I sincerely thought of buying a real (medium format) film camera but this post prevented me from buying one. Thank you Andy.
No presets for me though, too obvious, too much used by others. No real camera for me either. I came across this blog and realized that for what I wanted I shouldn’t look at photo-editing software but learn from cinematography.
And so I did. After some playing and some new software, I finally found ‘my’ colour. Below the colour for my long exposure portraits; do you like it?

I was in Duesseldorf for a workshop between my firm and an IT-company. At the end I asked some participants to have their portrait taken. Meet Aladar from Hungary, Teresa from Spain and Anca from Romania.

I know Miroslav for a long time already. So long, that I am not sure where we met for the first time: Zagreb, Duesseldorf or Belgrade. It doesn’t matter. What matters is, that when we meet, we have a good time.
This time we met in Duesseldorf and we worked together for two days on a project. Out side working hours we spend some time talking, eating and drinking in the old town or the hotel bar. It was about time that I took a portrait of him.

The firm offered us a small Xmas party. I offered myself to do some group portraits, but told the firm not to cancel the official photographer. Who am I to steal somebodies earnings?
There was still some mess with the new law regarding GDPR, could I use images or not, should I get permission, etc. etc. All valid, but not in my case: if you don’t want your image taken, don’t come and sit in front of my camera!
So, somewhere in a cosy corner, I set up my light and invited people to come. We made quite some nice group portraits, but Zoran wanted something special, something nothing to do with Xmas…

I really loved the details on the wedding of Marijana & Filip. It is the little things which makes sometimes a great wedding. And blessed those who are able to see and enjoy those little things.
Though cold, it was a lovely winter day. No snow though, but still, we had some fun outside as well. Most important thing for me is always that both bride and bridesmaid are warm enough to enjoy the session outside.

Before the curtain opens, a voice asks us not to take any images during the show. They always ask, I always wonder. Why?
Why can’t I make an image? Is it that the noise and flash will bother other people? Is it because the artists wants to sell their own images? Is it to keep the performance a surprise for others? Why am I not allowed to take some photos?
When the curtain opens, I decide not to obey. I will make some photos. With my camera in stealth mode, no one will be bothered: no sound, no light, just nothing. My images will not be for sale, so no income loss for the artists regarding this. Besides, who nowadays still buys images from performances? A dvd maybe yes, but images? I doubt. Regarding the surprise factor? I will post when performances are done, so I won’t ruin your surprise ;)
I take some images only, as I want to enjoy the performance myself, with my own eyes, not through a camera. Nevertheless, I manage to get some nice shots from a great performance. Enjoy.

Not one night, but two. Not Bangkok, but Duesseldorf. Of all places…
I had to go to Duesseldorf, three days, two nights. Giving feedback on a piece of software; part of the ‘finance’ me, nothing to do with the ‘artistic’ me. That said, a trip always gives an opportunity to meet new people, to create new intense portraits.
The weather was bad so I stayed mainly inside: either in the software company, either in the hotel, which was a bore. However, while being inside, I remembered Patrick la Roque, a great photographer who is able to create art out of the ordinary, out of nothing.
I tried to follow his path, photographed nothing, in my hotel room…

During an early flight between Zagreb and Frankfurt I was presented a beautiful sky: first a wonderful sunrise, then, we were flying between two big clouds. Clouds beneath me, clouds above me. As I was in between heaven …
… the moment was short, as the plane was heading back to earth. Shot with a x100t, processed with ON1 using LUT’s from lutify.
